Winner of the 2023 Sydney Fringe Best Emerging Artist Award

‘Dragon Hearts’ is a experimental shadow puppet show for adults. Using an overhead projector and over 100 draconic puppets, Wiradjuri/Irish puppet artist Bria McCarthy creates a light show that tells the ancient mythologies of dragons across culture and time. Through dragon stories well-known and long lost, it explores eco-feminism, and what it means to slay a creature of power. 

Experience stories from Ancient Greek mythology, old English remembering, The Bible, and Brias personal Dreaming, all through a mesmerizing light show that will leave you wondering whether you yourself could be a dragon at heart. 

Dragon Hearts premiered at Sydney Fringe 2023, and went on to perform again at Melbourne Fringe, Sunrise Festival, and various independent venues in NSW.
